Kirk Nebel was born and raised in Portland, Oregon in the seventies, and grew up listening to Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and AC-DC. He started playing the violin when he was 6 years old, studying classical music extensively. At the age of 12 he began guitar lessons and thus began his passion for playing Rock’ n ’roll. kirk received my BS in Political Science and Business from the University of Oregon, where I fell in love with the music of The Cult, the doors, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains. He moved to Los Angeles in 1999 to get more sunshine and to attend Musician’s Institute to study guitar where he received his Professional Diploma from MI and taught private guitar lessons out of his apartment for several years. He spent the evenings playing in local bands, and eventually founded his own alternative rock band: Velveteen Robot, which has released two full length CDs. In 2003 he opened his own music school; Hollywood Academy of Music, which offers private and group music lessons for students of all ages. After 5 years, he expanded the school to its second location in North Hollywood in the NOHO Arts district. Seven years after founding the school they have 18 amazing teachers and two office managers on staff and over 350 students attending classes. Always looking for a new challenge, in 2009, Kirk received his California real estate license and have been working as a broker for the past year, in addition to keeping the music school working like clockwork.
