Uncle Earl’s Grab Bag Special # 1

This week NYC “Wonder Boys” Rock Band NEVEREVEN & Internet Comedy Duo ARI ECKER and JOE YAKACKI of “FUNNY FOR MONEY”  Ari met Joe at Northeastern University and immediately became a huge annoyance in Joe’s life. This still remains true today. After leaving school, Ari worked for the Durham Bulls and Joe for Babytobee.com. Ecker was the Multimedia Coordinator and Yakacki was in charge of online advertising. Because of their vast life experiences, they are both now perfectly qualified to become the hosts of The Funny For Money News. That’s why they co-founded Funny For Money and they hope they will never have to have a real job ever again.

ALSO  NEVEREVEN…….. The name shouts out what you’re in for even before you hear the first kick-in-the-face chords: It’s a dual-headed beast, copping from the classics while looking far into the future of rock. The songs may evoke the legends of metal and even prog-rock intricacies, but these sweeping epics have all miraculously been distilled down to a few minutes each. In other words, Nevereven is ready to dominate the airwaves without budging an inch to satisfy corporate shills. Nevereven is taking back a New York Rock scene that’s been beaten down like an unwanted stepchild. Listen, and you’ll be transported to some grimy dive in NYC, far away from the gleam of Times Square and sleaze of Wall Street. Real Rock is back in New York. It’s been a long time!  Musical Artists Include: Andy Sartori, Jelixa, Tha Foe Headed Monsta, Kacy Davis & Nevereven!

Rap Icon Heavy D Dead At 44

Popular ’90s rapper Heavy D died Tuesday, the L.A. Coroner Chief Craig Harvey told People. He was 44 years old.

“He was transported from a residence in Beverly Hills and was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room,” Harvey told People. “The cause of death is yet to be determined; we’re investigating it now. We do know that he last saw his doctor two weeks ago.”

According to TMZ, the artist, whose real name is Dwight Arrington Myers, was pronounced dead at 1 p.m. today after being taken to a Los Angeles hospital.

At around 11:25 a.m., a 911 call was reportedly made, reporting an unconscious male outside.

TMZ reports that the “Now That We Found Love” rapper was conscious and talking when he was taken to the hospital.

There are reportedly no signs of foul play.

Heavy D appears in the Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy film “Tower Heist” and performed an old school set at the BET Hip-Hop Awards in October.

Stephen Hill, BET president of music programming and specials, said Heavy D was in good spirits when he performed at the hip-hop event. ” I’m so glad that we got to work together for his performance at last month’s BET Hip-Hop Awards,” Hill said in a statement. “Hev was focused, energetic and happy;  he worked HARD, as he always had, to excite the crowd.”

Hill added that Heavy D was known for his showmanship. ” When Hev showed up, you knew the show was about to go down,” he said. “Smooth on his feet and nimble with his tongue, the overweight lover/rapper/dancer was one who truly believed in the fun of hip-hop. Choreography? In rap? Yes!”

Ernie Singleton, who was the president of black music of MCA Records when Heavy D joined the label in 1986, considers working with the artist as a highlight of his career. “Having the pleasure of signing Heavy D through the Uptown deal was one of the greatest experiences of my life,” he told Yahoo! Music.

Heavy D & The Boyz was the first act released on Uptown Records, an MCA subsidiary that boasted a roster including Al B. Sure, Mary J. Blige, and an intern-turned-mogul Sean “Puffy” Combs.

Singleton said releasing Heavy D first was an obvious choice. “We were putting a compilation together. Heavy D’s song ‘Mr. Big Stuff’ was a runaway record and there was an album done on Heavy D. … When you sign an artist and everybody is reacting very positively to it, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to speed up the process and get a record out.”

Heavy D collaborated with a number of artists over the course of his career. He appears on the remix of Janet Jackson’s song “Alright” from her “Rhythm Nation 1814” album, and on Michael Jackson’s “Jam” from his “Dangerous” set. His biggest single was his 1991 song “Now That We Found Love” that reached No. 11 on the pop charts.

Wed 11/9 & Thurs 11/10 – The Underground Experience Presents “Uncle Earl’s Grab Bag Special # 1!”

This week NYC “Wonder Boys” Rock Band NEVEREVEN & Internet Comedy Duo ARI ECKER and JOE YAKACKI of “FUNNY FOR MONEY”

Joe Yakacki

Since Joe “The Face” Yakacki was born, he has been cursed with great good looks and those devastating baby blues. The nurse who took him to his first crib left her card in his diaper. Now Joe is returning to Show Biz. His career started by landing an internship on The Drew Carey Show. Without any prior experience, Joe’s talents were immediately recognized and was named “Head Wiper”, in charge of cleaning Carey’s glasses. It sounds like a cushy job, but Drew was a closet lens-ophiliac. Joe finally had to quit over artistic spritzing differences.

Ari Ecker

Ari is a former teenage stand up comic who made it as far as auditioning for a Nickelodeon talent agency. He was not picked up. Ari has been doing karate since he was a toddler. He now has a black belt, but only because it has never been washed in 23 years. After years of personal rejection, Ari bought an airline ticket to a singles retreat in Peoria. Because of a typing error he ended up in Peking. Making the best of it, Ari spent a year using the stairs of the Great Wall of China to train for the International Slinky Champion-ships in Singapore. He ended up coming in 634th but once again Ari found the silver lining in the experience by realizing he was also allergic to MSG.

Ari met Joe at Northeastern University and immediately became a huge annoyance in Joe’s life.
