Henry Jaglom’s “Just 45 Minutes from Broadway” intercuts events from two onscreen realms: an everyday world and sequences where the central characters act out passages from their daily lives onstage. The premise concerns the Isaacs, a prestigious family of stage actors descended from the giants of classic Yiddish theater.

On hand are patriarch George “Grisha” Isaacs (Jack Heller), matriarch Vivien Cooper Isaacs (Diane Salinger), Vivien’s thespian brother Larrry Cooper (David Proval) and houseguest Sally Brooks (Harriet Schock).

The story begins when the Isaacs’ free-spirited younger daughter, Panda (Tanna Frederick) ventures to the family home in Westchester County, New York, having suffered from a traumatic break-up with a thick-headed, emotionally stunted boyfriend. She’s grateful to be surrounded by her beloved family once again, but upset by the news that her older sister, Betsy (Julie Davis) is now engaged and will soon arrive for a visit with her fiance, Jimmy (Judd Nelson).

As old tensions between the sisters flare up once again, Panda struggles to keep real life and theatrical life separate, but finds it increasingly impossible; meanwhile, a new side of Jimmy emerges in the presence of the Isaacs which leaves Betsy both horrified and isolated. Also appearing – in a lengthy sader sequence – are friends and relatives of the Isaacs family, played by Michael Emil, Simon Jaglom, Sabrina Jaglom and others.

“Pettiford dazzles in both song and dance.”

– Elizabeth Ahlfers, Cabaret Scenes

“Pettiford is an effervescent tour guide of the soul.”

“Pettiford leaves her audience longing for more of her dynamic stage personality.”

– Elliot Zweibach, Cabaret Scenes

“Valarie is simply one of the most powerful performers; she absolutely blows me away.”

– Kate Linder, Young and the Restless

Valarie Pettiford’s career glitters like the lights on Broadway. An award-winning triple-threat, Valarie has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment, but has never let her brushes with fame go to her head. Although some would argue that she is a celebrity in her own right, Valarie is still a humble girl from Queens.

On screen, Valarie has appeared in films like “The Wiz”, “The Cotton Club”, “Glitter”, “Stomp the Yard”, “Why Did I Get Married Too”, the short film musical “Not Your Time, the award-winning short film “Response”, and “Jumping the Broom” from Sony Pictures. Her role in the lauded independent film, “Why Am I Doing This”, earned her a glowing mention in the LA Times.

Her role as Big Dee Dee Thorne on the hit sitcom “Half and Half” earned her three NAACP Image Award nominations. Valarie plays the recurring role of Sandra Lucas on Tyler Perry’s “House of Payne”. Other notable television appearances include guest starring roles on “Criminal Minds”, “CSI”, “CSI: Miami”, “The District”, “The West Wing”, “Frasier”, “One Life to Live”, “Bones”, “The Cape” and “The Finder”. She is currently a recurring guest star on the hit HBO series, “Treme”, and ABC Family’s new show, “Bunheads.”

Valarie’s theatre credits read like a very prestigious shopping list, with numerous accolades for the execution of her craft. Valarie won NAACP Theatre and Garland Awards for Best Actress in “The Wild Party.” She was honored with NAACP, Robby and Reader’s Choice Awards her role in “Show Boat.” Both performances were nominated for Ovation Awards. Valarie was a member of the original casts of “Sophisticated Ladies”, understudying Judith Jamison, and “Fosse”, for which she was recognized by the Drama League and nominated for Outer Critics Circle, Dora Mavor Moore and Tony Awards.

Valarie performed alongside Chita Rivera in the West End debut of “Chicago”, and subsequently performed ‘All That Jazz’ as a tribute to Rivera at the Kennedy Center Honors. However, her self-proclaimed career highlight was the fulfillment of a life-long dream; she recorded her first album, Hear My Soul.

An accomplished stage performer, Valarie has performed her widely-successful one-woman shows to sold-out audiences coast to coast. She has performed with Lucy and Desi Arnaz in New York and Miami in the musical tribute to their father, called “Babalu”. Valarie enjoyed stellar reviews in both cities. Proving that her voice ad presence are both Broadway bold, she is a regular guest soloist with the Pasadena Symphony for their annual Pops program.

In the traditional sense of the word, Valarie Pettiford is a diva, a master of her craft who has the ability to command attention. Whether she would agree, or try to harness that power, is anyone’s guess. Valarie will be releasing a new album, “Velvet Sky”, a collection of original lullabies, on Tuesday, September 18, 2012.

Annabel Lee

Whether belting out with the best of them, or oozing soft and sensual sounds, Annabel is a force to be reckoned with.  From Europe, Asia, and back to her native America, she has given to audiences from near and far as only she knows how: 100%!  Cabaret, straight-ahead classic and modern jazz, folk, and even classical; the genres have all been a part of her repertoire.  She’s an accomplished lyricist/composer, fronting her pet project with her collaborator and husband, Richard E; additionally, she performs standards known to all, such as those made popular by Sarah Vaughan, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Shirley Bassey, and that long list of legends.  For some, it may seem a bit ‘unfocused’, but for the Artist that is Annabel, it is simply a matter of utilizing each and every talent and skill that has been bestowed upon her.
